Menstrual care is one of those things none of us signed up for, and a very select few of us are excited to spend our money on the products we need to feel clean. And these things can get expensive. While I have never known another woman who would not willing share these products with someone who needed them immediately, it is no secret that they are on the pricey end and sometimes giving hurts. It can be difficult to afford these items, and that is why I am so excited that the menstrual cup and other products give women the opportunity to completely slash this expense from their lives for up to ten years! Just imagine all the things you could do if your period was not so expensive, and think of how quickly the cup pays for itself. Sustainable menstrual care isn't just planet based, it is financially the best decision you could make for you period.

I know very well that I am lucky compared to many women on this planet. I still live at home while I am finishing school, and even though I do take care of most of my personal needs, I am fortunate in that if I ever could not meet these needs, my family would. However, millions of women and girls in the US and abroad struggle with access to feminine hygiene and suffer for it. I don't know what it's like to have to choose between groceries or tampons, but some women do. It is this reason that makes me so excited that menstrual cups are available and such a worthwhile investment, not only for women in poverty, but for women of every class. Period poverty is a real condition many women find themselves in. Sustainable menstrual care is a hand-up out of that state. The dignity of proper hygiene should not be a luxury item. Reusable products empower women to live their lives fully, no matter their financial situations.
